Hi, my full name is Yan Sheng Lin(リン・やんせん), but a lot of people call me Yan. I like it both ways. I started thinking of writing a program like j2e-translate in December 2002, when I first started studying Japanese. At that time, I thought I would be able to master Japanese in one year with some help from Sanae(my Japanese friend). Well, I thought wrong:). I can come up with a lot of excuses for my inabilities to excel in Japanese as I did in other areas, but the bottom line is learning a new language takes time. Currently I am at about level 2(business level) and am trying to learn 10 new words everyday. I believe I will be able to master Japanese one day, and I hope by that time j2e-translate will be mature enough to stand out as a helpful program for the community.
The project has come a long way since I first started. For that, I am proud of the effort I put in. But it's been slow. It can be faster. If you are interested in machine-aided language translation(you don't have to know another language when all you need to know is the range of characters:) or simply setting up an i18n project and have sometime to spare, then I invite you to take a look at this project. The strength in community-based project is not because we have one or two smart guys on the team, it's because of team-work. And I truly believe in that. Please let me know if you are interested ASAP:).
